Dwelling

Dwelling is a startup that provides remote diagnosis for homeowners to help solve for home repair or maintenance issues. I was hired to come up with a product strategy for Dwelling, create an interactive prototype for user testing, as well as high-fidelity mockups to showcase on their marketing website. I collaborated closely with the company’s co-founders, two Harvard MBA students throughout the entire process.

UPDATE: The company Dwelling is now called ProPhone and may have a new business model

Project Overview

CHALLENGE: How might we create product experience that allows a homeowner to easily submit a request to a contractor. How might we provide the homeowner with a diagnosis and steps to follow that are easy to understand and actionable. How might we facilitate communication between the homeowner and contractor. And how can we work together as a team completely remote.

TOOLS: Google Drive, Zoom, Figma

TEAM: Myself and the two founders of Dwelling

TIMELINE: 5 weeks

PROCESS: This process involved, first setting up and running a design thinking workshop with all the stakeholders. The design thinking workshop consisted of a competitor analysis, identifying user goals and pain points, How Might We statements, developing a target user persona and creating an empathy map, followed by a journey map. Finally we ended the design workshop with crazy 8’s (paper sketches) and reflection.

Then we conducted 10 user interviews to better understand homeowners pain points and expectations and to validate our assumptions. After the user interviews, I designed multiple iterations of desktop wireframes and created a low fidelity, interactive prototype for user testing.

The next ask was to create “blue-sky” hi-fi mockups of what the Dwelling app would look like for use on their marketing website. This process involved, determining how to include their branding into the app and making the final designs be as clean and easy to understand as possible. After many iterations, we came to 3 final screens that demonstrate the primary use cases of the experience.
